Ghostwriter Where? Cardi B Inks Publishing Deal with Sony/ATV

Published

on

Recently becoming the first female rapper to sit on top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts without any other billed acts since Lauryn Hill in 1998, and the first female soloist to top the Hot 100 with a debut track unaccompanied by another artist since Meghan Trainor in 2014, Cardi B continues to win as she just inked a worldwide publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Spending three weeks on top of the Billboard Charts with her single, “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi B says the hit single is only the beginning and that she’s just getting started.

“Cardi B is honest, real and refreshing and has the confidence to say exactly what she is thinking and feeling,” said Sony/ATV senior director of A&R Jennifer Drake. “It’s tangible and you can connect to that. We are so proud to be able to work with a talented artist like Cardi and excited to see her push the culture forward.”

Cardi B was beaten by Post Malone’s “Rockstar” featuring 21 Savage for the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100. Nonetheless, Billboard reports that “Bodak Yellow” has sold nearly 500,000 digital downloads in the United States, and has been streamed more than 440 million times.

Is BIA Feuding with Cardi B?

Earlier this month, tensions between BIA and Cardi B appeared to be building.

The alleged feud came when Cardi B released her “Like What (freestyle),” sampling Missy Elliott‘s 1999 single, “She’s A Bi**h.” This prompted BIA to address the matter on X (formerly known as Twitter), highlighting similarities to her own track, “I’m That B***h,” featuring Timbaland, which also sampled the same record.

The feud progressed when Cardi B previewed her new record, “Enough (Miami),” which fans think draws parallel to BIA’s 2023 ‘REALLY HER‘ EP single, “Fallback.” The visual to Cardi’s new record also similarly looks like BIA’s “Millions.”

Ahead of the record’s release, Cardi responded on X, teasing, “B**ches make a fool of themselves every single time [crying face emoji] .. ima show ya something when I release this song tho [winking face emoji].”

Their relationship wasn’t always strained. In 2021, Cardi’s breakout hit “Bodak Yellow” achieved diamond certification, which prompted BIA to express admiration on social media. “If you’re not inspired you’re not paying attention,” she acknowledged. “You can at least be a fan of someone’s work ethic, growth, and contributions. & I’ve been writing for 10 years, what she’s accomplished is NOT EASY.”

Addressing rumors of a rift, BIA clarified, “Sweetie, I didn’t switch up on anybody because I don’t know Cardi in real life. I’ve never met Cardi, we’ve never had a conversation. Like, I don’t have no issues with her, it’s all love, but I don’t know her. Y’all do too much on this app, I don’t know her in real life.”

She ended with, “Ask me about somebody I know. Ask me about somebody I’ve met in real life, not online.”

Vybz Kartel’s Murder Conviction Overturned

Vybz Kartel's Murder Conviction Overturned miixtapechiick

Jamaican dancehall artist Vybz Kartel’s conviction for murder has been overturned.

Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, has been incarcerated since 2014 following his conviction for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams after a 64-day trial, one of the lengthiest in Jamaican legal history.

Sentenced initially to a minimum of 35 years behind bars, Kartel’s term has been subsequently reduced to 32 years. According to BBC, Williams and another individual, known as Chow, were entrusted with Kartel’s firearms for “safekeeping.” When they failed to return the weapons, Chow testified that they were both attacked, leading to Williams’ disappearance, and Kartel’s residence was subsequently burned down days later.

Williams’ body was never recovered, and Kartel, along with his co-defendants Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, have maintained their innocence.

Their last hope for justice laid in the appeal hearing before The Privy Council, the highest court of appeal in Jamaica and other Commonwealth nations, where they sought to overturn the verdict.

In delivering the council’s decision, a panel of justices highlighted a critical flaw: a juror accused of attempting to bribe fellow jurors was not removed from the trial. Despite the accusation, the judge allowed this juror to remain on the case and participate in the final verdicts.

The council deemed this allowance “fatal to the safety of the convictions” and a clear violation of the defendants’ fundamental right to a fair trial.

Moreover, the men argued that jurors were pressured into reaching a verdict late in the day, potentially compromising the integrity of the decision-making process. However, the panel did not delve into these allegations, as the seriousness of the bribery accusation alone warranted the dismissal of the guilty verdicts.

The Jamaican Court of Appeal will decide whether or not a retrial will take place.

"Kanye West Severs Ties with YesJulz Over NDA Breach During 'Vultures' Rollout miixtapechiick

Kanye West took to his Instagram Story this evening to announce the termination of his professional relationship with social media influencer and talent manager YesJulz.

“We have decided to no longer have YesJulz involved in the role out of Vultures,” he conveyed in the post, which has since been removed. “All the activity on her page and with our fans in the past few days has been unauthorized.”

YesJulz, born Julieanna Goddard, was initially contracted to assist in the promotion of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign‘s collaborative project, Vultures. Her involvement in the project became contentious after she was asked to leave the listening party in January, an incident that was broadcasted via Instagram Live and denied being kicked out after.

Leaked documentation revealed that Goddard was dismissed from her role at Yeezy by Chief of Staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, allegedly due to breach of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which reportedly carried penalties totaling 7.7 million dollars.

Vultures 1 dropped last month and featured contributions from Ye’s daughter North WestPlayboi Carti, Freddie Gibbs, Rich the Kid, Chris Brown, and more.
