As we’re a couple of months shy of the one-year anniversary of SZAs debut album CTRL, the songstress appears on two covers for the upcoming Spring 2018 Earth Issue of The Fader.

In her cover story by Kara Brown, Solana Rowe talks about fixing her diet in 2018, her views on her debut album versus the public’s perception, Donald Glover giving her encouragement about the project, Solange shooting “The Weekend” visual, and more.

On CTRL:

“I didn’t even fuck with my own album, so I was so confused and almost, like, angry that everyone fucked with it so much,” she says. “It meant everything I felt about myself was wrong. And it was just like, If that’s not the truth, then what is the truth?”

“I think when ‘Love Galore’ went platinum, Donald [Glover] texted me like, ‘Do you still think it sucks?’ And I was like, ‘I dunno.’”

On Her Audience’s Response To “The Weekend” Video:

“I was upset at first, cause I was like, Ugh this is my character. How can people think this about me?” she starts. “I cared so little about that song. I made that song in two seconds. That was like a throwaway, and then it was like, What about that ‘Weekend’ thing?

Though SZA may not fuck with her debut album, the album has officially gone platinum. Certified by the Recording Industry Association of America, SZA has also earned platinum plaques for her singles “The Weekend” and the Travis Scott-assisted “Love Galore” which have gone 2x platinum, while “Garden (Say It Like Dat)” and “Broken Clocks,”  certified gold.

It’s official! Ashanti and Nelly are expecting their first child together.

The songstress confirmed to ESSENCE, saying, “This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

In addition to the news, the couple has announced their partnership as co-owners of Proov, alongside founder Amy Beckley, PhD. Proov is a pioneering diagnostics company that offers affordable at-home tests designed to aid couples in their conception journey, providing valuable insights and support without breaking the bank. These medical-grade tests illuminate potential obstacles to conception, empowering individuals on their path to parenthood.

This new addition will mark Ashanti’s first child and Nelly’s third. The “Hot in Herre” rapper is also a father to his adult children, Chanelle, 29, and Cornell Haynes III, 24, from a previous relationship. Nelly also adopted his late sister Jackie Donahue’s children, Shawn and Sydney Thomas, after her passing from leukemia in 2005.

Ashanti shared her pregnancy announcement on Instagram through a heartwarming video that included a moment with her mother, Tina Douglas. In the clip, Ashanti is seen preparing for a show, and her mother, acting as her timekeeper, asks how much time she needs to get ready. After being asked twice, Ashanti emerges from behind the curtains and responds, “I’ma need about nine months,” leaving Tina pleasantly surprised by the joyous news.
