Aaliyah’s Music To Officially Be Released on Streaming Services Starting August 20

It’s been a long battle with Blackground Records to release Aaliyah‘s music.

However, the wait is finally over. Aaliyah‘s music will be released, starting August 20, on Spotify. Confirmed by Spotify via social media, the streaming platform released the official timeline of what albums would be released and when.

Aaliyah’s ‘One in a Million’ album drops on August 20, followed by the Romeo Must Die soundtrack on Sept. 3, her self-titled debut album from 2001 on Sept. 10, and the compilation albums, I Care 4 U and Ultimate Aaliyah on Oct. 8.

The #AaliyahIsComing hashtag began trending Wednesday, Aug. 4, after Blackground Records took to social media to announce the release along with the launch of a new website, AaliyahIsComing.com.

Aaliyah’s estate issued a statement regarding the surfacing of unauthorized projects. “For 20 years we have battled behind the scenes, enduring shadowy tactics of deception with unauthorized projects targeted to tarnish,” they wrote. “We have always been confused as to why there is such a tenacity in causing more pain alongside what we already have to cope with for the rest of our lives.”

Blackground Records will also be releasing albums from JoJo, Tank, Ashley Parker Angel and Timbaland & Magoo.
