A Los Angeles County jury has found Eric Holder Jr. guilty of first-degree murder, in the death of rapper and activist, Nipsey Hussle.

According to CBSLA, Holder was not only convicted in the death of the 33-year-old rapper, born Ermias Asghedom but he was also convicted of two counts each of attempted voluntary manslaughter (versus two counts of attempted murder) and assault with a firearm after injuring two others who were present during the March 31 shooting, outside of Asghedom’s The Marathon Clothing store.

“The streets he used to run as a young man became the life material that he used to become a voice of those same streets,” said Deputy District Attorney John McKinney during his closing argument. “While some people get successful, they make money, they leave their neighborhood, they change their address, this man was different. He wanted to change the neighborhood. He invested in the neighborhood. He kept the same friends and the neighborhood loved him. They called him Neighborhood Nip.”

During the trial, Holder was reportedly attacked in prison by inmates while waiting for transportation to court. Holder’s injuries, delayed the trial by one day.

Nipsey Hussle was laid to rest on April 11, 2019. An estimated 20,000 fans, family and music industry vets attended his memorial held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The memorial was followed by a  25-mile procession through the streets of South Los Angeles including his childhood home of Crenshaw and Slauson. The procession ended at Hussle’s clothing store.

Holder faces life in prison.
