Yesterday afternoon, BET award winning rapper Flo Milli dropped a new single titled ‘PBC.’  As the transition between Black History Month and Women’s History Month goes underway, #PrettyBlackCute is right on schedule.

Kicking off the song, Flo weaves in a popular quote from Sha’Carri Richardson during a post-race interview at the Summer 2020 Olympic Trials — I just want the world to know that I’m THAT girl.” Considering the controversies surrounding Richardson’s outspoken character, the quote is quite fitting. It cements PBC’s message for Black girls and Black women to stand confidently in their authenticity — with or without a cosign.

“Pretty for what? Pretty for who?” — Flo references the notorious backhanded compliment that is tethered to the Black girl experience, especially for dark-skinned Black girls.

SATURN’S BABY🪐 on Twitter: “PRETTY 4 A _____________ ? what’s something that youve been told 🧐 i wanna hear your stories / Twitter”

Consistent with the skit at the beginning of her previous single ‘Ice Baby,’   (in reference to ‘The Flavor of Love’) Flo pieces in another parody for ‘PBC’ which is in reference to an infamous elimination scene on America’s Next Top Model.

“If you want to be a PBC like the rest of these ladies — pretty, black, cute —  then when you go to bed at night you need to take responsibility for yourself because no one is going to take responsibility for you!”

The entire production gives the type of spunk that’s requisite for the runway. Speaking of which, Flo actually previewed her song during Tia Adeola’s runway show during NYFW earlier this month as mentioned in Essence.

Under one of her most recent Instagram posts, Flo announces that she’s “got a surprise” coming soon, preparing her supporters for her next move.
