On Thursday (Jan. 11), G Herbo, born Herbert Wright III, received his sentence in federal court in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Chicago native who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making a false statement to a federal agent in July 2023 was sentenced to a three-year probation term by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni. Additionally, he was mandated to pay $139,878 in restitution and a $5,500 fine. This legal outcome follows a 2021 indictment where G Herbo and five associates, Joseph Williams, Steven Hayes Jr., Demario Sorrells, and Terrence Bender, faced charges ranging from wire fraud to aggravated identity theft.

The indictment, filed in October 2021 by the U.S. District Court in Springfield, accused the group of stealing credit card information and using fabricated IDs, driver’s licenses, and email accounts for lavish expenditures. Their activities included private jet travel, exotic car rentals, a 2017 Jamaican villa vacation, and the acquisition of two designer puppies.

“On social media, Mr. [Herbert] Wright boasted an extravagant lifestyle. He gave the impression that his use of private jets, luxury cars and tropical villas were the legitimate fruits of his booming rap career as ‘G Herbo,’’ Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy said in a statement. “However, his lavish lifestyle was shamelessly built on deceit and fraud using stolen account information that inflicted substantial harm on numerous businesses, leaving a wake of victims burdened with financial losses. This case should serve as a stark reminder that breaking the law leads to prosecution and accountability, regardless of who you are, how many likes you rack up or how many followers you have.”

G Herbo previously faced up to 20 years in prison.
