Atlanta rapper Gunna will be released from prison after pleading guilty to racketeering charges stemming from the 56-count indictment against YSL that was revealed in May 2022.

Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 10, on one charge of Conspiracy to Violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). Young Thug, who was also named in the indictment alongside 27 other members of Young Slime Life (YSL), was arrested at his home in Buckhead. The 56-count indicted includes charges of murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft and possession of controlled substances and firearms.

Back in October, Gunna was denied bond for the third time since being arrested back in May. According to Judge Ural Glanville, his feelings have not changed since denying the first two bond appeals, citing his fear of witness intimidation after prosecutors claimed that a co-defendant said he would “whack” someone on Gunna’s behalf. “I still have the same concerns that have not been otherwise alleviated,” he told Gunna’s lawyerSteven Sadow.

WSB-TV Atlanta first reported that Gunna “entered a negotiated plea, known as an Alford plea, in which he plead guilty on one charge because it was in his best interest while maintaining his innocence on the same charge.”

Gunna issued the following statement: “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.”

Gunna was sentenced to five years with one served in prison. The one-year sentence was commuted to time served. The four-year remaining balance on his sentenced has been suspended and will be subject to special conditions including 500 hours of community service.

According to the plea agreement, “a substantial portion of which will require him to speak to young people about the hazards and immorality of gangs and gang violence.”

Young Thug remains incarcerated.
