Halle Bailey Releases Her Debut Solo Single ‘Angel’
Following her star-studded performance as Ariel in the highly-acclaimed live-action remake of The Little Mermaid earlier this year, Halle Bailey makes a remarkable comeback with her debut solo single, “Angel.”
The heartfelt ballad appears to be a powerful response to the criticism and racially motivated comments she faced as the first Black actress to portray Ariel in The Little Mermaid, which premiered in May 2023.
Through soulful lyrics, Halle sings, “Some might hate and they wait on your fall / They don’t know there’s a grace for it all / My flaws don’t make me. Beautiful and real are you, they cannot compare, all you / Perfectly a masterpiece in all of me, even my scars.” These empowering words reflect her resilience and determination to rise above the negativity and embrace her true self.
Halle Bailey’s performance as Ariel in The Little Mermaid contributed to the film’s massive success, grossing over $118 million during its opening weekend. But her talents don’t stop there, as she is set to grace the silver screen once again in another movie musical later this year. Audiences can eagerly anticipate her appearance in Blitz Bazawule’s The Color Purple, scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
With her powerful vocals and unwavering spirit, Halle Bailey continues to shine as a multifaceted artist, inspiring audiences worldwide with her grace and authenticity.

“Who really down for their gang? (Who?) / Who really friend or a foe? (Who?) / Who really pourin’ the four? (Who?) / Who really up? U.F.O. (Who?) / Who playin’ down on their goals? (Who?),” she spits.
