Jussie Smollett Indicted on Felony Charges for Filing False Police Report

Jussie Smollett has been officially indicted on charges for allegedly filing a false police report.

On Jan. 29, reports surfaced that Smollett, 36, had been involved in a hate crime. Filing a report with the Chicago Police Department, the “Empire” star stated he was attacked by two masked Trump supporters. During the attack, the two masked men yelled anti-gay slurs and “This is a MAGA country.”

Following the attack, Chicago police had allegedly requested that Smollett turn over his phone and bank record. However, the police’s spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi, denied to answer the allegations.

Since the attack, two suspects were detained and questioned by the police. The suspects, brothers Olabinjo Osundairo and Abimbola Osundairo, who previously appeared on “Empire,” stated that Smollett paid them $3,500 to stage the attack. The men are now cooperating with the Chicago police department and footage has since been released of the Osundairo brothers purchasing the noose that was allegedly found on Smollett’s neck.

On Wednesday evening (Feb. 20), it was announced that Smollett had been indicted by the Cook County Grand Jury. Smollett has been charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report. The Class 4 felony charge carry up to three years in prison.

As of 5:15 a.m. (Feb. 21), Smollett turned himself in to the Chicago Police Department and made a statement before being taken into custody. His bond hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Cook County Criminal Court.
