Recently, Grammy award winning pop singer Lizzo announced the release of her shapewear brand called ‘Yitty.’ She took to Instagram Live on March 30th to showcase some pieces from her Yitty closet!

The fashion line has been in the works for approximately five years now, as Lizzo explained on all social media platforms. In fact, she partnered with Fabletics to bring her vision to life.

Yitty is all inclusive, as sizes run from 6X to extra small with varying compression levels!

Fatphobia is a form of discrimination that runs deeper than many people would like to admit. In her livestream, Lizzo explains the type of agony that plus-sized girls and women face when they try to enjoy common happenings like going to the mall with friends and getting dressed up. There has also been a noticeable absence of plus-sized women in music and fashion which certainly contributes to harmful social conditioning.

On that premise, Yitty is a game-changer.

“People are looking for something that they can’t find… people are still buying girdles! They don’t need to be putting themselves through the torture.”

The name “Yitty” originates from a nickname that the star had as a child. Her brother’s mispronunciation of her birth name “Melissa” quickly turned into her childhood nickname that brought “warmth” and “deep connections.”

“Yitty” is also a tribute to her late Auntie who also provided the nickname with more nuance for the singer.

She giggled about how she intended the name to be “Butt Booty Naked.”

During her livestream, she also discussed sustainability, explaining that a large percentage of fabrics are recyclable including the packaging! She has also ensured the use of eco friendly dyes.

Yitty’s ultimate mission is “about creating your beauty standard.” She wishes for women to be able to say that they look and feel good making them unstoppable!

Yitty is scheduled to drop on April 12th.  Also, be on the look out for a new single dropping soon About Damn Time!’
