Just last week, Mack Wilds unleashed two new visuals in support of his sophomore album, AfterHours. Recently wrapping up his season on Fox’s Shots Fired and VH1’s The Breaks, the jack of many trades landed himself on the cover of Vulkan Magazine‘s latest online issue.

In between filming on set and recording at the studio, the Roc Nation artist sat down with Vulkan Magazine where he addressed the mixed reviews of AfterHours in comparison to his 2015-debut New York: A Love Story, the most important advice he’s ever gotten, what advice he would give to young stars in the industry, and much more.

Check out the photos from his cover story as well as a snippet from the interview below.

Your latest album “AfterHours” received mixed reviews as many that enjoyed your album “New York: A Love Story” wished that you remained true to that sound, how do you manage to please the desires of your fans while remaining true to yourself?

I think that there’s always gonna be a little push-back to new music because artists and creative, myself included, change and grow as we experience life, just like other people. So the change was staying true to myself, but I’m not necessarily the same self that created “New York: A Love Story.

How would you describe your sound as a musician? Who are some of your influences?

I haven’t really developed my sound yet. I am however developing it. My influences as I’m working on my new EP consist of Kanye, Donell jones, Wu Tang, Neyo, The Roots, and Case. I would say Frank Sinatra but that’s more of an aesthetic influence.

What advice would you give a young male seeking success in the industry?

Whenever entering the industry your actions become the forefront. So being very conscious and aware of what you say & do but never changing who you are. As well as always trusting your talents. A business like this makes people become very self-conscious and it’s important to be confident in order to reach your definition of success.
