Mariah the Scientist Releases Official Video for “Burning Blue”
Mariah the Scientist is entering a new chapter. Last week, the Atlanta-born artist returned with “Burning Blue,” a haunting, emotionally-charged single that marks the beginning of her next era. Today, she follows with the official music video.
The track—produced by Jetski Purp and Nineteen85—is the first single from Mariah’s yet-untitled fourth studio album, due out via Epic Records. Since its release, “Burning Blue” has climbed to No. 1 on Apple Music, becoming the only female-led single to top the platform’s charts this year.
Driven by icy metaphors and emotional fire, the single finds Mariah navigating themes of vulnerability, love, and emotional surrender. “I got that blue fever, cold as ice ’til you came near,” she sings. Later, she confronts betrayal: “If you open fire, then it’s treason / And I decide to go out swinging.”
In the video, Mariah leans into that contrast—sensual and militant—backed by a troupe of war-ready dancers. Dressed in a stylized military jacket and bullet bandolier, she channels a “little green toy soldier,” a metaphor she recently discussed on Over It Radio with Summer Walker. “That’s how men see us,” she said. “It’s a joke, almost.” The concept explores women’s loyalty in relationships, even when it goes unnoticed or unreciprocated.
“Burning Blue” also serves as the lead single for the follow-up to 2023’s To Be Eaten Alive. In March, Mariah teased the new album at Billboard’s Women in Music event: “[My] new project, that has taken many nights to put together—but it’s done. So, I’m excited to put it out.”
Ahead of the release, she addressed fans in her newsletter The Lab, writing, “Burning Blue is spreading like a literal fire… Knowing you love this song as much as I do is making me really excited to share the rest of the project.”

Tyla and Zara Larsson Drop New Single “She Did It Again”
Tyla and Zara Larsson seem to have broken the internet with “She Did It Again,” their new collaborative single. Produced by Ari PenSmith, the track serves as the second single from forthcoming sophomore album A-Pop. Fans have already drawn comparisons between the “She Did It Again” video and Beyoncé and Shakira‘s 2007 “Beautiful Liar.”
Tyla teased the collaboration last week with hidden figure images in the single’s cover art, leaving fans to guess who the featured artist was. The collaborator was revealed to be Zara Larsson on Wednesday, April 15.
“No ordinary love, this is propane, no, it’s not safe / Baby, this a dangerous game for you / Baby, this is all child’s play to me,” Tyla sings on the track.
“She Did It Again” follows “Chanel,” which Tyla released in October and has continued to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Tyla announced A-Pop at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on earlier this year. Her self-titled debut arrived in 2024, and she has since released the WWP EP featuring Wizkid ahead of this new era.
