MASS. Mondays_ Get Money Cartel, DTheFlyest, $hayBand$, Triy

It’s a new year, so you know I had to bring back Mass. Mondays. Last year, we were blessed with an insane amount of music as artists took advantage of the pandemic in the best way possible. Whether it was numerous Instagram Lives, having a slew of singles and videos in the chamber, or Youtube concerts, the pivoting of our musical landscape has brought out the best of our artists, and it’s also evident who couldn’t survive.

But, without further ado, here are my picks for this week’s Mass. Mondays.

After dropping “That’s My Baby” with Rosewood Bape back in August, Triy returns with his debut album, TriySeason: The Unexpected Journey. The long-awaited project features 13 tracks with contributions from Tailored Music, Bia Javier, KAM’GEEZ, Vanni Allan Poe, and BOOKBAGBOONIE.

“This album was five years in the marking,” said Triy. “I’m glad I get to share a piece of my journey with the world.”

With production handled by D BrownMusic, JPatterns, Diorr, JayTheGreat and several others, including Triy himself. TriySeason: The Unexpected Journey serves as a follow-up to the 2019 project, The Care Package.

DJ POLOKING – ‘Not Your Average Family’ f/ B. Blazo, Cassh Cartel, Bando Baby

Not Your Average Family

After releasing their respective projects, Get Money Cartel‘s own B Blazo, Cassh Cartel, and Bando Baby drop their debut compilation project, Not Your Average Family.

Hosted by DJ POLOKING, it’s a family affair as the 10-track effort contains no features but production handled by TWayne The Kid, Mike Hector, Tee WaTT, Josh Schuback, Nick Mira, Danny Rome, Clemsy, Buu, Sunny Laurent, @1LightBeats and Tucker. Each artist gets to shine on their own track, so by the end of your first listen, it may be hard to decide whose your favorite.

Stream Not Your Average Family below.

Stream: Dtheflyest – ‘Sandoboy’

DTheFlyest Sandoboy

Marking two years since the release of his debut project, “,” DTheFlyest has kept things rather light the past two years. Linking with 7981 Kal on “Better Off” early last year, the “Toxic” rapper also went on to release the single “Coco Crazy” featuring BIA, as well as gifting fans with a follow-up EP, Priv Madness, which featured four tracks with a guest appearance by Btl Flee.

Ready to get things rockin’ again, DTheFlyest ended 2020 with the release of his brand new project, Sandoboy. Consisting of nine tracks, the project features his lead single, “Riot.”

$hayBand$ –  No Features

Screen Shot 2021 01 03 at 10.08.22 PM

I’m still waiting for the official video for “Famous,” but Shooterz Muzik’s first lady, $hayBand$, ended 2020 with a brand new visual titled, “No Features.”

Rightfully so, the rapper isn’t doing any features and she honestly doesn’t have to. Her words alone hold weight and she’ll probably out rap your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper.

Though only 2:44 in running time, $hayBand$ gets straight to the point.

#MassMondays: SliccBae, Wave Capone, BTL FLEE, Clark D x Guyclaude

Yes I know, it’s been awhile. But, it wouldn’t be me if I weren’t fashionably late. This #MASSMONDAYS will feature the latest from artists I’ve been listening to these last few months. No write-ups, just vibes. Check out who I’ve been listening to below.

SliccBae ft.Borirock – BabyRock

Discovering who she was during a Sir Clark D (now known as Clark D) show at Black Market Nubian over the summer, I was sooooo excited to stream music from SliccBae when I got home. Who other to collaborate with than BoriRock on her first official video, “BabyRock.”

Wave Capone – Trench Poetry

Earlier this month, Wave Capone released his brand new mixtape, Misunderstood. Y’all know my kind of music is pain music and Wave literally lets it all go on “Trench Poetry” which is more than likely why the record serves as the closing track on Misunderstood. The project features 12 tracks with a lone feature from $hayBand$.

BTL Flee – 4 A.M

With his project Life of A Bandit out now, BTL Flee returns with the official video to his latest offering, “4 A.M.” The record serves as a follow-up to his March release, “Pour Up Liquor.”

Clark D x Guyclaude – A Family Affair

Ahead of Thanksgiving, Clark D and Guyclaude unleashed their project, A Family Affair. Giving us 11 tracks, the two brothers tapped on the services of Seefour, Tamera King, Miranda Rae, Dos, Michael Christmas and Echezona. Released under their Finally Famous imprint, stream the collaborative project below.

Black man arrested by Boston Police during stroke to receive $1.3 million

Boston Police
Mass Live

Al Copeland, a Black man who was arrested while suffering from a stroke in his vehicle was awarded a $1.3 million settlement after being wrongfully accused of being drunk, back in 2019.

According to records, Copeland was driving on Mass Ave and began to feel nauseous. He decided to park at the Berklee School of Music, where he sat in his vehicle unconscious for almost two hours. Two Boston police officers found Copeland and arrested him, claiming the now 62-year-old smelled like alcohol.

However, what officers did not know was that Copeland had been practicing sobriety for 20 years and was actually suffering a stroke. When he was taken to the police station, Copeland reportedly struggled to stand and subsequently ended up falling and hitting his head before throwing up. Copeland was taken to Tufts Medical Center where medical professionals also thought he was drunk.

After several hours in the emergency room, doctors determined Copeland was suffering from a stroke which ruled out the cops’ accusations of the 62-year-old being drunk. The stroke resulted in Copeland behind hospitalized for weeks which was followed by him being unable to complete certain daily tasks and ultimately resulted in him having to resign from his job at the MBTA.

The City of Boston launched an internal investigation after being contacted by Copeland’s lawyer, George Leontire. However, the officers weren’t cited for treating Al like he was drunk, but for being negligent in their lack of response when he hit his head on the cell wall.

Copeland received a $1.3 million settlement, but neither the officers nor the City of Boston has been charged in the incident; they quietly dealt with it and dismiss the event.
