Opening up about her personal life as we’ve never seen, Nicki Minaj took to Instagram a few clips from her upcoming Queen documentary, where she opens up about being in an abusive relationship that she vowed to never be in.

In the first clip, an emotional Nicki Minaj opens up about watching her mother be physically abused by her father and how helpless she felt when she couldn’t protect her.

“I remember when my mother would let my father be violent with her. As a little girl, I would stand in front of my mother and go like this,” Minaj says as she opens her arms out. “That’s why maybe some people would describe me as abrasive or bitchy or whatever because I vowed from that age, ‘No man would ever abuse me, call out my name, treat me like that.’ And then all of a sudden, that was my life.”

In the second clip, Minaj goes into detail about being an abusive relationship of her own and relocating to get out of bad company.

“Who was I gonna inspire when I had nothing in me to give? I let one human being make me so low that I didn’t even remember who I was. I was scared to get in the studio because I didn’t believe in myself.”

Minaj then moved to Miami, where things started to change.

“I started catching a vibe as soon as I went to Miami. As soon as I changed locations, I started catching a vibe.”
