It’s been six years since we’ve heard a solo effort from Rihanna.

Today, the Bajan songstress returns with the leading single from the soundtrack to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever titled ‘Lift Me Up.’

Written by Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson, the ballad is a tribute to the life and legacy of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in August 2020 from cancer.

“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” said Tems. “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired By, will another song by Rihanna titled “Born Again.” Produced by The-Dream and James Fauntelory, “Born Again” will be released via Rihanna’s label Westbury Road, in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam, and Hollywood Records on Nov. 4.
