Teyana Taylor Previews 'Escape Room' Era with New Single “Long Time” miixtapechiick

Teyana Taylor just gave us the first taste of what’s to come with Escape Room — and it starts with heartbreak.

“Long Time,” produced by Rico Love and The Runners, arrives as the first single from Taylor’s upcoming album and sets the emotional tone for what’s being teased as her most personal body of work to date. Over a moody, pulse-driven beat, Teyana unpacks the lingering ache of a relationship she should’ve let go of sooner. “I kept you inspired / I lent you my fire / You let me get tired,” she sings, raw and reflective. “And the truth is, I didn’t end when it was over.”

This isn’t a sad girl record though — it’s a moment of clarity.

It’s been five years since Taylor dropped an album, and in that time, she’s made it clear that she doesn’t move unless the timing and intention are right. “Long Time” doesn’t feel like a comeback — it feels like a page-turn. A check-in. A reminder of everything she’s capable of when she’s in control of the vision.

The single is pulled from Escape Room, Teyana’s newly announced music and film hybrid that’s dropping in August via Def Jam. The project will be paired with a short film under the same title — which she wrote, directed, and produced herself through her all-women team at The Aunties. Described as a futuristic, noir romance thriller, the visual will star Taylor, LaKeith Stanfield, and Aaron Pierre. And if you know Teyana, you already know the aesthetic is about to be top-tier.

If “Long Time” is any indication, Escape Room is going to be the kind of project that breathes. The kind that digs deep emotionally but still holds its power. Taylor’s pen is sharp, her delivery is grown, and the production walks that line between cinematic and intimate — something only a few artists can pull off without sounding forced.

And what makes it hit harder? This era isn’t backed by industry politics or timelines. Teyana isn’t here to prove herself — she’s here to express herself. That distinction matters.

Long Time” is out now on all platforms. The Escape Room album and short film drop this August.
