It’s been a journey for Teyana Taylor since the release of debut album VII in 2014.

Releasing The Album earlier this year, KTSE (2018) and the 2015 EP, The Cassette Tape, 1994, Taylor has announced that her musical chapter is coming to a close.

Taking to Instagram a photo of her Spotify end-of-year numbers, which featured over 162 million streams of her records from 15.2 million listeners in 92 countries, Taylor showed gratitude as well as being very transparent about her position in the industry:

“Wow, who did that? Y’all did that!” she wrote. “Thank you. I ain’t gone front in times of feeling super under-appreciated as an artist, receiving little to no real push from the ‘machine’, constantly getting the shorter end of the stick, being overlooked, I mean the list on and on lol..”

It was after that she announced her departure from music: “I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that i can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put in was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world!”

“To all my supporters from day 1 & all my new ones I love you and I thank you for everything & don’t worry y’all know,” Taylor concluded. “all hustlers have the understanding that when one door closes another will open…either that or I’m pickin da locks petunia!!! So wassup.”

Since 2014, Taylor has been signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, a parent company of Def Jam Recordings. Throughout her tenure on the label, she married basketball player Iman Shumpert and gave birth to two children, Junie and Rue Rose. Taylor is also known for her choreography – most notably – Kanye West‘s “Fade,” and acting.

Taylor played the lead character, London, in the BET series, “Hit the Floor,” had a supporting role as Sabrina in “Madea’s Big Happy Family,” and has been featured in numerous other films.
