Young Thug Is Free After Accepting Guilty Plea Deal in YSL RICO Case
Young Thug is finally coming home after accepting a plea deal in the long-standing YSL RICO case. On Thursday, October 31, the Atlanta rapper appeared in Fulton County Court before Judge Paige Whitaker and pleaded guilty to all charges except racketeering and gang leadership, to which he entered a “nolo contendere” plea, meaning he neither admits nor disputes these charges.
In line with the plea, Young Thug agreed to avoid contact with his co-defendants, though he requested and was granted exceptions for his brother and Gunna.
Judge Whitaker explained his sentence:
“Essentially is 40 years, to serve the first five years in prison, but commuted to the time that you have already served. Followed by 15 years on probation. Followed then by the back-loaded 20 years; which can be served in custody and will be serve in custody if you are not successful on your probation. If you are successful in completing your 15 years probation, that will be commuted to time served.”
For the first time since the trial began nearly two years ago, Thug addressed the court, sharing, “I am a smart guy, I am a good guy, and I really got a good heart,” he told the judge. “I found myself in a lot of stuff because I was just nice and cool, and I understand you can’t be that way when you reach a certain height because it could end bad.”
The YSL RICO case kicked off on May 9, 2022, when Young Thug, along with Gunna, was named in a massive 56-count indictment targeting YSL members. Charges ranged from murder and armed robbery to gang activity. Thug was held without bond, and his trial began in January 2023 with extensive jury selection.
Gunna had already entered an Alford plea in December 2022, meaning he admitted guilt for one charge while maintaining innocence, stating it was in his best interest to avoid trial.

Live Stream: Rolling Loud New York Festival
Friday, Sept. 23, kicks off the third annual Rolling Loud New York festival.
Taking place at the Citi Field in Queens, Rolling Loud will feature Nicki Minaj performing her first headlining set with Rolling Loud on Friday, while A$AP Rocky takes on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Future closing things out Sunday, Sept. 25.
Rolling Loud New York was the center of attention on Thursday after the NYPD called for the franchise to remove rappers Sha Ek, Ron Suno, and 22Gz from the 2022 Rolling Loud New York Festival, according to the New York Times. This is the second time 22Gz has been removed from the Rolling Loud lineup.
“I was informed by Rolling Loud that NYPD is pulling us off the show. With no explanation,” said Diamond “Bo” Brown, Suno’s manager, via text. “How does a person who [has] no criminal record and no gang activities be denied to perform in his hometown after all his hard work, It’s crazy because he never even made a diss record.” Brown says festival organizers assured her that Suno would still be paid for the booking “and will hopefully be able to perform at later events.”
Rolling Loud New York will be hosted by Hakeem Rowe, YesJulz, and himynamestee. The livestream will broadcast performances from the FashionNova and D’usse stages for all three days via Youtube starting at 2 PM.
