Mariah The Scientist and Kali Uchis Link Up on “Is It a Crime” miixtapechiick

Mariah The Scientist has tapped Kali Uchis for her latest single, “Is It a Crime.”

Produced by Mat1k and Oliver Easton, “Is It a Crime” is Mariah and Kali pushing back against how people view love from the outside looking in. Mariah opens the record reflecting on how outsiders never really get it, no matter how much they watch or try to paint their own version of the story. For her, it doesn’t matter if the world refuses to call it love — it’s still love to her.

When Kali enters, she doubles down on that idea, declaring that if loving her is supposed to be a crime, then her partner might as well be a prisoner for life — because breaking up isn’t on the table.

At its core, the record is about owning love on your own terms. Messy, complicated, or misunderstood, Mariah and Kali remind us that love doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else as long as it makes sense to the people in it.

“Is It a Crime” follows Mariah’s breakout single “Burning Blue,” which was just certified gold by the RIAA after selling over 500,000 units in the U.S. Both tracks will live on her upcoming fourth studio album, Hearts Sold Separately, dropping August 22 via Buckles Laboratories and Epic Records.

Meanwhile, Uchis is gearing up to hit the road on her Sincerely Tour, set to kick off August 14 with Thee Sacred Souls as special guests.
