Album Review: Mick Jenkins – The Patience

mick jenkins the patience miixtapechiick

Mick Jenkins, the enigmatic artist known for his lyrical skill and introspective storytelling, has returned with his fourth studio album, The Patience released on August 18, 2023. Born Jayson Mick Jenkins in Huntsville, Alabama, and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Jenkins has been a consistent figure in the hip-hop scene since his debut mixtape, The Mickstape, in 2012. With his latest offering, Jenkins takes his listeners on a journey through his own evolution and perseverance.

The Patience boasts an impressive lineup of features, including heavyweights like Freddie Gibbs, Benny The Butcher, and JID. Jenkins doesn’t hold back when it comes to production either, collaborating with a diverse group of producers that includes 99TheProducer, Beat Butcha, Dilip, and more.

One of the standout tracks on the album is “Pasta,” where Jenkins delivers thought-provoking lyrics, as he often does, with lines like “I weathered storms and did the pantomime, I rarely speak ’em. Empowered palpable hands, talcum powdered when you greet him.” The wordplay and depth in his verses showcase his growth as an artist and a storyteller.

Another notable track is “Smoke Break Dance,” featuring JID, which has a gritty beat that complements their fiery verses. Jenkins and JID’s chemistry on this track is undeniable, and lines like “Put an eighth in it, motherfucker got some weight on it and some wax in it. Don’t play with it, all the way from concentrate with it, juice like fresh OJ” make it a highlight of the album.

One interesting aspect of The Patience is the limited visual content associated with the project. Jenkins didn’t have the budget or incentive to shoot numerous music videos, package intricate rollouts, or tour widely, all due to certain limitations. This underscores the album’s focus on the music itself rather than extravagant marketing campaigns.

Perhaps the most compelling aspect of *The Patience* is its ability to connect with listeners on a personal level. Many new fans have found solace and healing in Jenkins’ introspective lyrics and soulful beats. The album serves as a testament to Jenkins’ growth as an artist and his commitment to evolving his craft.

In conclusion, The Patience by Mick Jenkins is a testament to the artist’s growth, both lyrically and sonically. With its thought-provoking lyrics, impressive features, and diverse production, it’s an album that demands repeated listens. It’s clear that Mick Jenkins is not only a rapper but also a storyteller who continues to push the boundaries of his artistry. For both longtime fans and newcomers, The Patience offers a deeply immersive and emotionally resonant experience. Mick Jenkins has once again proven his ability to capture the hearts and minds of hip-hop enthusiasts.

Now, the Toronto native fires back, airing out his grievances towards his peers over a 4-minute track sampling Notorious B.I.G.‘s “Get Money.”

Drake’s response to Kendrick Lamar:

“What’s a Prince to a king? He a son, n****”

“Pip squeak pipe down, you ain’t in no big three, SZA got you wipe down, Travis got you wiped down, Savage got you wiped down, like your label boy you Interscope right now” “How the f*** you been big steppin with size 7 mens on”

“Maroon 5 need a verse, you better make it witty, then we need a verse for the Swifties, Top say you drop, you better drop and give up fiftyyy”

Drake’s reply to J. Cole’s apology for dissing Kendrick Lamar: “And that f*cking song y’all got is not starting beef with us/This sh*t been brewing in a pot, now I’m heating up/I don’t care what Cole think, that Dot sh*t was weak as f*ck”

Drake’s clapback at Rick Ross:

“I might take ya latest girl and cuff her like Ricky, can’t believe he’s jumping in, this n**** turning 50, every song that made it on the chart he got from Drizzy, worry bout whatever going on with you and—”

Drake’s response to Metro Boomin:
