Nipsey Hussle‘s brother, Samiel “Blacc Sam” Asghedom, is currently battling with the Crips organization to obtain the trademark for Hussle’s signature catchphrase, “The Marathon Continues.”

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Asghedom filed for the trademark of the catchphrase on May 26, 2019, to be used for entertainment, music, as well as “charitable activities and the doing of good deeds for others and the promotion of ethical and character values.”

As aforementioned, the Crips have also filed for the trademark. Similar to Blacc Sam, they would also be using the phrase for charitable events and “gang intervention.”

The rapper was a member of the Crips organization, the Rolling 60s.

Hussle used the catchphrase quite frequently. Hussle released two mixtapes titled, The Marathon and The Marathon Continues in 2010 & 2011. He also ran a store in Crenshaw titled, The Marathon Clothing, where he later lost his life.

Once the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office acknowledges that there is dual filings, they will make a decision on who has the right to profit off the name.
