Star Brim, known as Cardi B‘s best friend, has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison, accompanied by three years of supervised release following her guilty plea regarding involvement in criminal activities associated with the 5-9 Brims.

Born Yonette Respass, Star Brim found herself indicted in February 2020 alongside 17 other individuals linked to the 59 Brims gang. The charges against them spanned a series of offenses, including racketeering, drug trafficking, and firearms violations, with some cases involving allegations of homicide and attempted murder. Star Brim was identified as the gang’s Godmother, tasked with overseeing its operations and allegedly issuing directives such as ordering violent acts, as detailed by the Department of Justice.

In delivering the sentencing, Judge George B. Daniels sought to provide a path for Star Brim’s rehabilitation and deterrence from her prior criminal affiliations. The terms of her release include conditions to prevent any reengagement with gang-related activities, including a prohibition on associating with the Bloods or affiliated groups, both online and within locales notorious for gang presence.

Among the charges faced by all defendants was conspiracy to commit racketeering, while Star Brim faced additional accusations of maiming and assault in support of racketeering activities.

Star Brim is slated to serve her sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut. Her surrender, arranged by the Bureau of Prisons, is scheduled for before 2 p.m. on July 1, 2024.
