Last week, Fetty Wap’s legal team asked Judge Joanna Seybert for their client to serve the minimum of five years after the New Jersey rapper pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess and distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine following his October 2021 arrest, while en route to his Rolling Loud: New York.

Fetty Wap’s legal team told Billboard that he “began to struggle to keep up the lifestyle that he created for so many.”

“[Maxwell’s] judgment became impaired. Desperate to keep up with his financial obligations, Mr. Maxwell became involved in the instant offense for a few months in the spring of 2020.”

As a result, the “Trap Queen” rapper was sentenced to six years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for conspiracy to distribute cocaine . Prosecutors were reportedly pushing for more, stating the lyrics of “Trap Queen” were related to his history of drug dealing.

Prosecutors also argued that Fetty Wap allegedly admitted to a probation officer that his 2015 song “Trap Queen” was an “ode to a former girlfriend who assisted him in a cocaine base distribution operation in Patterson, New Jersey.”
