Prosecutors Push to Keep Lil Durk Behind Bars as Murder-for-Hire Case Builds
Federal prosecutors are not backing down as Lil Durk fights to have his murder-for-hire case dismissed. In a new filing this week, they made it clear: “He is not on trial for his lyrics or his music; he is on trial because he directed, orchestrated, and financed the brazen murder plot at issue in this case,” wrote U.S. Attorney Bilal A. Essayli.
The Chicago rapper, born Durk Banks, has been behind bars since October 2024, facing multiple federal charges including conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death and the use of a machine gun during a violent crime. If convicted, he could face life in prison—or the death penalty.
Durk’s legal team filed a motion in April asking the court to dismiss the indictment, pointing to the use of his lyrics as part of the government’s case. The motion specifically called out a verse from Babyface Ray’s “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy,” which prosecutors referenced even though Durk recorded it seven months before the August 2022 shooting that killed Quando Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab.
Durk’s team argues the government is criminalizing Black art. “Durk has always used music to tell stories, to express pain to heal—and yet those same lyrics are now being used against him,” a spokesperson said. “We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art.”
Prosecutors, however, pushed back in Monday’s response. They also claim that witnesses in the case—and their families—have been threatened, reinforcing their position that the indictment should stand.
Back in February, Durk was also hit with a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Lul Pab. The civil complaint, brought by Pab’s mother, Andrea Laquila Robinson, names Durk, his label Only The Family, an unnamed business manager, and an unnamed management company. “The premature loss of Mr. Robinson has devastated his family and community,” her attorney said at the time. “We filed this lawsuit to hold those responsible accountable.”
Durk is currently awaiting trial. Initially set for January 7, the trial has been pushed to October 14 due to the sheer amount of evidence, which includes over 230GB of digital files, 20,000 pages of reports, surveillance footage, medical records, and multiple witness statements. One co-defendant, Asa “Boogie” Houston, is opposing the delay, while another, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, is reportedly considering a plea deal.
The charges stem from an August 2022 shooting outside a gas station near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles, where prosecutors allege that Durk and five co-defendants orchestrated an attempted hit on Quando Rondo, which resulted in Lul Pab’s death. Prosecutors also allege that Durk used his position to finance the OTF crew’s trip to California, where they tracked Rondo’s movements and carried out the shooting. They claim OTF operated like a criminal enterprise, using violence—including murder—to maintain control and influence.
Durk was arrested in Florida last October, initially picked up in Broward County after federal authorities tracked his movements near Miami International Airport. Following his arrest, the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office released a statement: “The apprehension of Mr. Banks as he attempted to leave the United States is proof that the FBI… has a long reach. No excuse can justify this violent act.”
Since then, Durk’s request for bond has been denied, with prosecutors citing a history of rule violations while in custody—including unauthorized three-way phone calls. A new bond hearing is scheduled for June 2, with Durk’s legal team proposing a $2 million bond backed by cash, real estate, third-party sureties, electronic monitoring, and 24/7 private security.

D. Woods Responds After Three Danity Kane Members Say June 20 LA Block Party Booking Was Made Without Their Consent
D. Woods took to her Instagram Stories to address the controversy surrounding a June 20 Danity Kane appearance at the LA Block Party in Los Angeles, confirming she and Aundrea Fimbres plan to perform at the event. “5,4,3,2, & even 1 — there have been many versions and configurations of Danity Kane. But our fans have always been constant,” she wrote. “Drea & D. Woods thank you for ‘Holding Us Down’ and are looking forward to GOING UP at @lablockparty June 20th. Let’s start the summer off right and continue our 20th Anniversary with a celebration of the music we all love.”
As previously reported by miixtapechiick.com, Danity Kane’s official page issued a statement saying the booking was made by only two members without the knowledge or consent of Dawn Richard, Aubrey O’Day, or Shannon Bex. “This promotion constitutes false advertising and a misleading promotion, creating a false impression of full group participation,” the statement read. “Presenting a two-member lineup under the full Danity Kane name without clear and accurate disclosure results in deception of fans and a clear misrepresentation of what is being offered.”
The June 20 appearance is billed as part of the group’s 20th anniversary. Danity Kane’s Untold Chapter Tour, which ran from December 2025 through January 2026, also featured D. Woods and Fimbres alongside Aubrey O’Day, without Richard or Bex.

Three Members of Danity Kane Say Two Others Booked a June 20 Show Without Their Knowledge
Dawn Richard, Aubrey O’Day, and Shannon Bex are calling out a flyer promoting Danity Kane at the LA Block Party at Pershing Square in Los Angeles on June 20, saying they were not informed about the appearance and will not be there.
A statement posted to Danity Kane’s official page confirmed that only two members independently booked the show without the others’ consent. “This promotion constitutes false advertising and a misleading promotion, creating a false impression of full group participation,” the statement read. “Presenting a two-member lineup under the full Danity Kane name without clear and accurate disclosure results in deception of fans and a clear misrepresentation of what is being offered.”

The flyer was posted by the danitykaneontour Instagram account, which wrote “Kicking off this summer with @lablockparty bringing yall back to 20 years ago!”
The situation comes amid an already divided chapter for the group. Danity Kane’s Untold Chapter Tour ran from December 9 through January 2026 and featured Aubrey O’Day, Aundrea Fimbres, and D. Woods, a lineup that did not include the full original group. Dawn Richard said she was not aware of the reunion, and Shannon Bex has been open about stepping away from music to focus on entrepreneurship. Woods, who had not performed with the group since her exit in 2008, addressed her return directly. “The Untold Chapter Starts Now. Ya Girl Is Back and rewriting OUR story,” she wrote.

It didn’t end there. A second clip filmed outside shows the woman throwing another punch at Ice Spice while the group was crossing the street, leading to another scuffle. Video also shows Ice Spice picking up a phone from the ground belonging to someone in the other group, which she allegedly smashed.
The woman, identified as Vayah, gave her own account, claiming Ice Spice was rude when she approached to show support and that she slapped her after being called a “bitch.”
Ice Spice’s attorney Bradford Cohen said the incident has been reported to the LAPD. “The unprovoked attack on my client has been reported to the LAPD and we will be pursuing any and all avenues to hold the perpetrators responsible for their actions, including criminally and civilly,” Cohen said. “We are also exploring holding the location responsible for their lack of appropriate security.”
As previously reported by miixtapechiick.com, Ice Spice is currently being sued by a New York wig maker over an unpaid $20,000 order for her 2024 Y2K tour.
