Tekashi 6ix9ine Released From Prison

Daniel “Tekashi 6ix9ine” Hernandez was released from prison Thursday, April 2, after his attorney, Lance Lazzaro, wrote a letter to the courts asking for an early release for the “FEFE” rapper amid the pandemic of COVID-19 health concern for his client, citing pre-existing conditions (asthma) and the health risks associated with being in solitary confinement.

Though many outlets reported that the motion was going to be denied, U.S. District Court Judge Paul A. Engelmayer made the decision to put Hernandez on home confinement for the remainder of his sentence.

“The Court accordingly finds that, in light of the heightened medical risk presented to Mr. Hernandez by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are extraordinary and compelling reasons to reduce Mr. Hernandez’s sentence in the manner requested––to wit, releasing Mr. Hernandez from custody and requiring him to serve his first four months of supervised release in home confinement, on specified conditions,” according to courts via Inner City Press.

Hernandez was originally sentenced on December 18, 2019, and was set to serve 24 months, resulting in an August release.
