Three years ago, Teyana Taylor announced her retirement from music, citing frustrations with her label and the politics surrounding the music industry. Despite receiving support from her peers urging her not to abandon music, Taylor stuck to her word and embarked on a farewell tour throughout 2022 and 2023.

Following her retirement, Taylor ventured into creative directing, collaborating with artists such as Summer Walker, Latto, and Lil Baby, just to name a few. She also starred in her first leading film, “A Thousand And One,” which former President Barack Obama named as one of his favorite films of 2023.

“Nahhhhhh, the thought of President @barackobama at his crib watching ‘A Thousand And One’ is toooooo littttttt!,” she wrote on Instagram. “Ayeeeeeeeee #athousandandone Check out some clips from #athousandandone if you haven’t seen it, and you can check out the full movie on all streaming platforms.”

Following Obama’s endorsement of the movie, Taylor shared on Instagram a snippet of a new record she recorded. Though its unclear if Taylor will be returning to music, the snippet is a reminder that her pen still works.

The record serves as a follow-up to Taylor’s 2018 album, KTSE.
