Atlanta rapper Gunna has been denied bond in an ongoing RICO case involving himself, Young Thug and 28 other members of YSL.

According to culture reporter Jewel Wicker, prosecutors believe that YSL (Young Slime Life), is not just a record label, but a gang. Prosecutors also consider that Gunna is a commander of the alleged gang alongside Young Thug and it is documented that the two rappers “direct their troops to commit violent acts.”

Part of the reasoning for Gunna’s bond being denied is due to the fact that the judge has concerns about witness tampering.

Last month, Gunna and Young Thug were arrested following a 56-count indictment where Thugger, born Jeffrey Williams, is being charged with conspiracy to violate the racketeer-influenced and corrupt organizations act (RICO) and participation in criminal street gang activity, while Gunna, born Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, is being charged with one count of conspiring to violate RICO.

Wicker reports that Gunna’s lawyer can file another motion for a bond at a later date.

Gunna’s trial has been set for January 9, 2023.
