Lil Wayne, Doja Cat, And More To Perform At 2023 MTV VMAs

Today (Aug. 31), MTV revealed the performers set to grace the stage at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Set to air live from Newark’s Prudential Center on Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET, we will see performances by Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin, Stray Kids, Doja Cat, Lil Wayne, Anitta, Kelsea Ballerini, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER.

With a whopping five nominations under her belt this year, the VMAs serve as an appetizer for Doja Cat’s North American tour, which features the talents of Ice Spice and Doechii. Doja Cat’s album’s lead single, “Paint the Town Red,” has remarkably climbed to the No. 5 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in less than a month, solidifying her status as a chart-topping sensation.

Lil Wayne, marking over a decade since his last VMAs performance, is poised to take the stage once again, this time to showcase his latest single, “Kat Food.” The New Orleans rapper has also received a well-deserved nomination for Best Hip Hop, due to his recent collaboration, “Kant Nobody,” alongside the iconic Swizz Beatz and the late DMX. The anticipation for his return to the VMAs stage is nothing short of electric.

On September 5, Dequantes Devontay Lamar, known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, tragically passed away at the age of 34.

Quan’s father and longtime manager, Corey Lamar, initially planned a small, private service for close family, stating it was important to “begin the healing process.” However, he later reconsidered, saying, “Without the fans, there would be no Quan.”

In honor of Rich Homie Quan’s life and legacy, Fox 5 Atlanta will be live streaming the funeral service at World Changers Church International in College Park.

Rich Homie Quan rose to prominence in 2013 with his breakout single “Type of Way,” which reached number 50 on the US Billboard Hot 100. His mixtape Still Goin’ In (Reloaded) was later named one of the top 10 mixtapes of the year by Rolling Stone. The following year, Quan teamed up with Problem for the hit single “Walk Thru” and joined forces with Birdman’s Rich Gang. Alongside Young Thug, he became part of the group’s success, with their single “Lifestyle,” produced by London On Da Track, earning platinum certification.
