Six Girl Groups That Could’ve Prospered (But You Probably Never Heard Of Or Remember)

Note: Forgive any spelling error you may see. I randomly wrote this at 4 AM. I’ve always had a thing for struggle artists, one hit wonders, two hit wonders, etc. It was more easy to follow up on them during the Myspace days, but now, you hear them once and they disappear forever. So, without further ado, here are my six choices.

Dear Jayne (2009)

This song was MY JAM on during the Myspace days. I really couldn’t tell you much about them except that they were signed to The-Dream and were scheduled to release their debut album, Voice Message, but it never happened. This record and “Fall Back” would’ve gotten major radio play had it gotten the recognition it deserved.

Electrik Red (2009)

NOW THIS GROUP HAD IT! They had a great debut single and an even greater remix with Lil Wayne. All of their music was written by The Dream and were signed to Def Jam Records. Why they disappeared? No idea, but apparently the group is still together. As far as new music, I don’t think we’ll ever get any.

TG4 (2002) & DAME 4 (2008)

I remember being younger and wanting them to win so bad. I did street team, fan pages, message boards, but my efforts just weren’t enough. Chris Stokes simply just did not know how to market these two groups. It would’ve taken a village.

Having them focus on safe sex and abstinence just wasn’t something that was going to stick back then and definitely wouldn’t stick now; especially when you have a whole roster of male talent promoting sex.

Any who, you may recognize Sevyn Streeter, who went by her government Ambee in TG4, as well as Mila J in Dame 4. So happy  they’ve been able to prosper since their girl group days.

Rich Girlz (2009 – 2010)

After TG4, I never would’ve thought I’d see Sevyn again (cause she was my favorite) so when I saw her in Rich Girlz, it was really a dream come true. However, I HATED “He Ain’t With Me Now” and thought she blew it. That was until the group came back with their Fabolous and Rick Ross-assisted cut, “Get Your Swagger Right” and I rejoiced. They really had something here. However, that was their last video and final record until Sevyn would eventually make her return solo with “I Like It.”

Bonus: ISYSS (2002)

Everyone remembers them. Everyone knows this song. Megan Good’s older sister was in the group and their debut album, The Way We Do went Gold, selling 500,000 copies with only two supporting singles. Unfortunate that they disbanded shortly after.

Bonus #2: LovHer (2002)

Another group with a great debut single and follow up. Signed to Def Soul, the group’s album was shelved and they were dropped from the label.
