Sylus Gambino Links Up with Shay Bandz, Gio Dee and Eway Nef for "That's A Reach"

When the pandemic hit last March, Sylus Gambino had just released his first single, “Kill or Be Killed” featuring 8 Zipp, Vanni Allan Poe and Kam’Geez. Though most artists feared what was to come their way, Gambino was not phased. The NNCHVLNT president went on to not only promote the record but took advantage of the “Stay At Home” order by kicking off the #KillOrBeKilledChallenge on social media.

With the record garnering over 100k streams on Spotify, Gambino decided to take things up a notch and made his way to Atlanta alongside his label to shoot the official video for his second single, “Down For Me” featuring NNCHVLNT’s own Vanni Allan Poe and 26 Rari, as well as platinum-selling Atlanta artist T.K. Kravitz, most notable his contribution to Lil Durk‘s “Homebody” which also featured Gunna. Produced by Humbeats, the visual has amassed 77k+ views on Youtube.

Now kicking off his 2021 takeover, Gambino returns with some heavy hitters for his brand new single, “That’s A Reach.” Featuring Shooterz Muzik Machine’s first lady, $hayBand$, who is doing numbers with her record, “No Features,” as well as Gio Dee (who recently dropped his “Plunder” Freestyle with Polo Summers) and NNCHVLNT’s Eway Nef, whose debut single, “On Me” continues to amass views on Youtube, everyone gets their time to shine on the Mykel Forever-produced track.

“The purpose of this record was to officially break Nef as an NNCHVLNT artist,” saidTrippy, NNCHVLNT’s manager. “We had the first two records which featured Vanni on the hooks and the second record with Rari on the verse, so this time we felt like being intentional with giving him his time to shine and introduce himself.”

Trippy continued with how $hayBand$ & Gio Dee got on the track. “Shay got into the picture because as we all know she’s the First Lady of Shooters Muzik and has been arguably one of the most consistent female artists from the city in 2020 and continuing throughout 2021. Gio Dee was a no-brainer when it comes to thinking of top-tier artistry in Boston. We knew he could set the tone for any record. But once I told the producer I was looking to get Gio Dee on a record a light bulb went off above his head and he sent over a beat he felt literally catered to Gio Dee’s swagger. In other words, sugar, spice, and everything nice or whatever they said.”

With brothers 509APHAROAH and Vinny hitting us with an electrifying performance throughout the HighAssMoney-directed clip, Trippy also gave us an explanation of the vision behind the video:

“The direction for the video was just us looking to do something a little different than we’ve done,” he said. “Getting into doing our own treatments has been so dope, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out how you anticipated. For this video, luckily, that wasn’t the case. The intent was to entertain our audience. The hook has a cool bop and makes you want to dance so that was the purpose of the dancers. I remembered the energy I felt after watching a Fabolous and Chris brown video called Flipmode and I’m like yeah I just want the video to be as fun as that looked on screen.”

“That’s A Reach” will appear on Gambino’s forthcoming project, Everything Earned.

#MassMondays: SliccBae, Wave Capone, BTL FLEE, Clark D x Guyclaude

Yes I know, it’s been awhile. But, it wouldn’t be me if I weren’t fashionably late. This #MASSMONDAYS will feature the latest from artists I’ve been listening to these last few months. No write-ups, just vibes. Check out who I’ve been listening to below.

SliccBae ft.Borirock – BabyRock

Discovering who she was during a Sir Clark D (now known as Clark D) show at Black Market Nubian over the summer, I was sooooo excited to stream music from SliccBae when I got home. Who other to collaborate with than BoriRock on her first official video, “BabyRock.”

Wave Capone – Trench Poetry

Earlier this month, Wave Capone released his brand new mixtape, Misunderstood. Y’all know my kind of music is pain music and Wave literally lets it all go on “Trench Poetry” which is more than likely why the record serves as the closing track on Misunderstood. The project features 12 tracks with a lone feature from $hayBand$.

BTL Flee – 4 A.M

With his project Life of A Bandit out now, BTL Flee returns with the official video to his latest offering, “4 A.M.” The record serves as a follow-up to his March release, “Pour Up Liquor.”

Clark D x Guyclaude – A Family Affair

Ahead of Thanksgiving, Clark D and Guyclaude unleashed their project, A Family Affair. Giving us 11 tracks, the two brothers tapped on the services of Seefour, Tamera King, Miranda Rae, Dos, Michael Christmas and Echezona. Released under their Finally Famous imprint, stream the collaborative project below.

Black man arrested by Boston Police during stroke to receive $1.3 million

Boston Police
Mass Live

Al Copeland, a Black man who was arrested while suffering from a stroke in his vehicle was awarded a $1.3 million settlement after being wrongfully accused of being drunk, back in 2019.

According to records, Copeland was driving on Mass Ave and began to feel nauseous. He decided to park at the Berklee School of Music, where he sat in his vehicle unconscious for almost two hours. Two Boston police officers found Copeland and arrested him, claiming the now 62-year-old smelled like alcohol.

However, what officers did not know was that Copeland had been practicing sobriety for 20 years and was actually suffering a stroke. When he was taken to the police station, Copeland reportedly struggled to stand and subsequently ended up falling and hitting his head before throwing up. Copeland was taken to Tufts Medical Center where medical professionals also thought he was drunk.

After several hours in the emergency room, doctors determined Copeland was suffering from a stroke which ruled out the cops’ accusations of the 62-year-old being drunk. The stroke resulted in Copeland behind hospitalized for weeks which was followed by him being unable to complete certain daily tasks and ultimately resulted in him having to resign from his job at the MBTA.

The City of Boston launched an internal investigation after being contacted by Copeland’s lawyer, George Leontire. However, the officers weren’t cited for treating Al like he was drunk, but for being negligent in their lack of response when he hit his head on the cell wall.

Copeland received a $1.3 million settlement, but neither the officers nor the City of Boston has been charged in the incident; they quietly dealt with it and dismiss the event.
